Portrait of Dr Luís Carlos Silveira

The Father of Preventive Medicine in Brazil

Dr Luís Carlos Silveira

Dr Luís Carlos Silveira graduated in Medicine from the Catholic University of Pelotas, Brazil, in 1971. A visionary ahead of his time, he created the Kur Method, an integrated model of health built on five pillars, water, movement, food, relaxation and balance, which became a worldwide reference in wellness and longevity.

With his wife Neusa Silveira he founded Kurotel, the Center for Health and Well-being in Gramado, in 1982: a pioneering institution bringing together medicine, science and hospitality, and one that has shaped a generation of practitioners.

Specialised in Nutrology, he holds the Honorary Title of Physician in Lifestyle Medicine from the Brazilian College of Lifestyle Medicine. His humanised, integrative approach transformed healthcare in Brazil, and his career has been honoured with awards including the LIDE Health Award, Great Names of Medicine.

He supports social projects bringing health education to communities with little access to it, and is the author of several books on living a healthier, more balanced life.
